DG Jan 06 - Looking Back, Looking Ahead: B-Movies 2005 & 2006
Page 2
DG: We asked several directors, actors & actresses active in the b-movie world what their fondest memory of 2005 was, and what they hoped for in 2006. here's what they had to say:

Ron Bonk of SRS Cinema said that the best thing in 2005 was The B-Movie Film Festival. Ron is looking forward to starting a new movie production, "Clay" in 2006.

Man of many talents Mike (Honey Glaze) Legge says, "The best thing that happened to me all year was being nominated for Best B Movie and Best Screenplay at this year's B Movie Fest in Syracuse, and winning the Best Screenplay. For 2006, I hope to finish my next screenplay and begin work on "The Dungeon of Dr. Dreck," a feature comedy based on my alter ego TV personality, a horror host in Central Mass."

Writer/Director/Actor Ron Ford said, "I only made one movie in 2005, TIKI, but it was for Fred Olen Ray, who I have been trying to hook up with professionally for years. It was a terrific experience, working with all these talented young actors in Spokane. Hopes for 2006? To make more movies for Fred Olen Ray!"

Ryan Cavaline from 4th Floor Pictures said the best of 2005 was being able to finish "HOUSE OF CARNAGE" after several bad experiences with shooting the movie. His goal for 2006? "To finish three projects, sell a million copies of our new flicks, and keep my sanity in place for another year."

Miami-based filmmakers Ray & Migdalia Etheridge reported on their best memory of 2005: "While filming "DETOUR TO HELL" in Florida, we experienced a major hurricane which left us without electricity, telephones, and life-saving air-conditoning. We had to finish shooting the film by lighting the set with battery power, from our car. The actors sweltered in 100-degree heat but never complained. The movie was finished on schedule. Best hope for 2006? We are looking forward to seeing the release of our movies "Revenge Of The Rednecks", "FART-The Movie", and "Detour To Hell" by SRS. But most of all, it would be nice to finish our latest project...a zombie film..without interference by hurricanes!"

Tempe Video head honcho J.R. Bookwalter cites seeing THE DEAD NEXT DOOR debut on DVD from Anchor Bay in a remastered edition for its 20th anniversary as his best memory of 2005. J.R.'s wish for 2006? "Death to the big retailers (Blockbuster, Hollywood, et al) and a new life for indies with VOD and other new media delivery methods. Good riddance, 2005!"

Jay Woelfel comments, "Last year was the year that my most recent film GHOST LAKE, funded and owned by my own company Young Wolf Productions got released. We actually made money on the film and the film had the largest release of any film I've directed. We showed it at a number of different places across the country with crowds of 200 or more and the fun was that the film really played well to audiences. But maybe the most memorable moment was at the last public screening for Micro cinema scene festival. ThereÊis a line in the movie I thought was very funny and it had never gotten a laugh at any screening. At the festival it got a laugh there. I thought, great at least I'm not the only one who found that funny, now I can stop screening it.

My hope for the new year for indie/B cinema is that anyone who has a project they just feel has to be made that it get made for them and released. My other hope is that anyone on any level making a film/ remake/ sequel/ you name it, only to cash in on something they don't understand of care about, will go down in flames and that "film" not be added to the pile of junk that results from the "fakers" in the movie business.

John (The Seekers, Housebound) Bowker though his best memory of 2005 was, "seeing the finished product that I wrote for Joe Sherlock called TAINTED BLOOD for an anthology and seeing how awesome it turned out! As for 2006, my goal is to get another movie shot. At work, vacation is based on how many hours you work, so next year I should have about 15 days coming and there is nothing I would like more than do to another one."

The multitalented Eric (KILLERS BY NATURE) Spudic says, "My best moment from 2005 was finally appearing on Cinemax multiple times, a dream of mine for the past decade. My single goal for 2006 is to get a decent-budgeted starring vehicle off the ground."

New Jersey actress Deana reports, "My single best memory for 2005 - being able to complete two horror movies called "The Larksville Ghost" and " Requiem for a Vampire." They were two completely different roles and my fans will get see a different side of me. My hope for 2006 is that my career continues to grow and expand. Any one need a scream queen?"

Tim (SCREAMING FOR SANITY) Ritter commented on his best memory from 2005: "That 'Reconciled Through The Christ' saw a very nice release and reception on DVD. It took a long time to get it finished and that felt very rewarding for everyone who worked on it. For 2006 in the b-movie world, I hope new markets continue to open and evolve for the independent, underground moviemaker so we can all keep doing this and reach receptive audiences."

DG: Amen to that, Tim. Best of luck to all b-movie makers and b-movie lovers in 2006 and beyond!
